Closet Tips

How many times have you said that you are going to go through and sort out the old, worn and out-of-style clothes in your closet? Take just 15 minutes and go through one small section of your closet. That's it! You could be through for that week or if that wasn't unpleasant, keep going until you have had enough. If you did just 15 minutes a week you could have a clean, well organized closet in a month.

Winter is a great time to go through your wardrobe. Are you bored with your clothes, unhappy with your image?
Do you seem to wear the same outfits over and over because you don't know what you have in your closet? Time to reorganize.

Look through your clothes carefully and place them in 3 piles:

  • (1) Mending
  • (2) Keep
  • (3) Give Away

I know you have heard this over and over but, If you have not worn an item in the past two years - - Give It Away!

"What if I want to keep it?"

If you can't part with it, put it in another room or in the back of your closet. If it is still there after a year, then you should definitely give it away.

If you intend to lose those last 10 pounds and fit into that smaller size; think about it. How long have you been trying to lose those last few pounds? Chances are the clothes are either out of style or not age appropriate. Put it in the Give Away pile.

When you have finished sorting your clothes, organize your Keep pile into their own groups (i.e. shirts and blouses, pants, etc.) and then arrange them by colors and patterns. This makes it so much easier to find what you need when you are in a hurry.

If there is wasted space between your hanging clothes and the floor, consider a double rod to give you more hanging space.

Finish your closet reorganizing by purchasing a shoe rack and shoe trees to keep your shoes in shape, and shelf dividers to separate your folded items or purses. Put your shoes into groups also - i.e., dress, business, casual, sport - and arrange them by colors.

If you have room in your closet, put your seasonal clothes together. If you don't have the room, put them in another closet, if possible.
